Hey FM Addicteds,
I have told you that Tottenham is the cup monster and they continue to the tradition.... Now turn is for Champions League. When i have taken over the seat of Tottenham we were not playing either Champions league or Europe League. So my players and i concentrated on just league to be able to join Champions league.. - not Europe League- because i believed my team and their quality... Ofcourse they did not disappoint me.
At the end of the first season (2009-2010) we have found ourselves in the champions league seeds.
We have been drawn in Group G. Other teams in this groups is HSV from Germany, FC Kobenhavn from Sweden, and lastly Austria Outfits Rapid Wien... It was really lucky drawn indeed. I was sure that i will qualify from this group. My players did what they know.... Scoring goals goals goals and ofcourse winning :)
Now lets take a look at the general overview of the group after all matches were complated.
As i said, this group was an easy one to qualify and we knew how to qualify. I have lost points two times. I have lost against HSV and draw against FC Kobenhavn. As a result, 4 win, 1 draw, 1 lost was not a bad score for my first time in Champions League.
Keane, Defoe, and Pavlyuchenko trio moved me the next step.
Now, I had to pass Toulouse FC. The first match was in France and i have lost againg Toulouse with an unexpected result. (3-4) Defoe was the man of the match and he deserved this with the hattrick. I was still lucky because 3 goals in away match was advantage for me. In the second leg, Tottenham welcomed Toulouse and said "Farewell" with three goals. I sstarted to wait my quarter final rival... and yes, it was really rival for me: Chelsea FC. Defoe made speak his quality in both of two games against Chelsea and we have passed Chelsea with 1-0 and 1-1 results. Our goals came from Defoe.
Shakhtar made a suprise to us and found Tottenham in semi final... But they could only find... We have sent them back to Ukraine.
And this was the day i have been waiting for a long time and team and fans also...
Defoe was already ready for this match and he fired his shoots to Buffon. Buffon could not resist to Defoe more and he saw 3 goals in his box. I also could not believe this result but at the end of the 90 minutes, Champions League Cup was coming to us.
Although Juventus was better than us in Statistics, the result was saying the opposite.. So sometimes statistics can lie... Indeed most of the time, it lies :) My players ran more than Juventus and showed their desire to win the match. Accurate shoots was the main way that took us to the result... I have to say that exactly at this point I have got what i want with the training i have asked for Defoe... Defoe was working on long shots and it helped us very much... I appreciate the power of training
Defoe won the Champions Cup Golden Boot with 12 goals in 9 appearances and he also got what he deserved.
That was one of the most amazing days in Football Manager and i assure you that it will continue...
