In my previous post, i have mentioned the over-expectation performance of Southampton at Premier League. Now it is time to talk about other cup matches. But what a pity, those will not be very long and good news. Because the story lasted quicker than expected.
Southampton played at Capital One cup and FA Cup.
Capital One Cup:
At Capital One Cup, we have met Bournemouth, Crawley, Aston Villa respectively at the rounds.
It was a goal galore with Norwich City at quarter final and the last whistle was telling the winner as Southampton.
Norwich found the first goal at 15th minute. It was not a start that we have planned but thanks Jose Fonte that we hit back immediately at 21st minute. After this goal, Southampton took the control of the game and we have found two other goals and made the scoreboard 3-1 but at 83rd minute a light of hope glimpsed for Norwich with Grant Holt's goal.
Last 10 minutes was very exciting for both sides. Norwich attacked we have defended well and found ourselves at the semi final.
The opponent was Manchester United at the semi final. At first half of the season, we have met with Manchester United and won against Manchester after a tremendous match ending as 4-3 but this time what a pity we have lost against Manchester 2-1. We could not handle Danny Wellback :(
The second leg of the semi final was one of the most exciting game of the season. The first half was at Midfield totally. At the second half we should have increased the pressure and it worked.. Johnny Evans scored and own goal but we could not hold the game. Robin Van Persie scored at 74th minute. After that minute, I asked all players to attack and Wellington Nem showed his quality at the last minute of the game and thus the game went on addition time. At second minute of the addition time we have found another goal with Wellington Nem and the score was 3-1... We were about to win but this time what a pity we came accross the same destiny with Manchester. This time Manchester found a goal at the last seconds of the addition time and the score turned to 3-2.. This was the biggest disappointment at this season but this result made something clear: you can play well but you should be lucky too. If you are not lucky, even the ball came back from the goal line..
English FA Cup
FA Cup adventure was shorter than the expected. We have lost very dramatically to Cardiff at 4th Round.
It was another disappointment for both of us and the fans. Month January was failure for us. We have made 9 matches at January; 5 lost 4 win
