Hello Dear FMAddicteds,
Today I will try to share my tactical approach at Southampton. To be honest, this tactical approach is my general tactical understanding in this game that rarely change from team to team I managed.
Football is all about entertainment is one of the most common sayings in my press conferences. I promise board and the fans an attacking team. Team should bite the opposite at the pitch when they are on.
As you can understand easily from this understanding, my tactical strategy is based on "attacking" and the team formation is famous 4-2-3-1
Team Formation
Southampton will play with an attacking philosophy like a hunting eagle. I call it with this name. Because when you look at the formation you can imagine what I want to explain. Think about an eagle hunting. Eagle flies in the sky and looks for the hunt. Nothing can run away from the sharp sights of an eagle. When the eagle finds the hunts, it soars in the air and pique towards the hunt. The end is inevitable.
Now take a look at the formation again! Strong, fast wingers will carry the ball to the opposite side as fast as possible and the cross the ball to the killer guy, 1 powerful, tireless striker. Striker will also do his job best and score the goal :) My forward trio (AMR-AMC-AML) is the wings of this eagle. Striker is the head of the eagle.
The feet of this eagle is the two midfielders. One of them is central midfielder while the other one is ball winning midfielder. Ball winning midfielder is the one who fights for the ball and pass the ball to the forward as soon as he finds the chance.
Back four is the tail of the eagle..The most important part of an eagle providing the whole balance. It is the same in this formation too. If the back fails, we will concede goals and maybe lose points that we never want to.
Team Instructions:
Team instruction is the guide of the players how they will act at the pitch during the match. I try not to play oftentimes these instructions. Because in many trying I experienced that settling of an instrument may take time and that also cause a few games to lose. So i have changed a few points different than the default values.
Play these instructions carefully. The most important parts of this instructions is the passing style, marking, crossing, and tackling. For example, if you tell your players tackle aggressively and apply man marking, it is very possible to see red cards in the game.
Shout:
![]() |
Are you an excited manager who can never seat during the match and shouts non-stop. Then using shouts will make your job easier. To be able to create a shout, you should just go to Tactics>>Shouts. After that, it is very easy to name the shout and choose whatever you want. I have generally one saved shout at the game. That shout pack includes many of sub-instructions like defensive line, ball distribution, tackling, passing, attacking, shooting, etc...
If you tick the "Change Strategy to" button, thus you can easily change your strategy according to the shout you choose automatically.

Tactical Squad Depth and Player Suitability:
This is a brand new functionality that makes the game more real. If you can not decide to play who, then you can use this functionality.Just click on shirt number of any player and a new pop up window will appear. There are two buttons at the top of the tactic screen: player suitability and squad depth.
Player suitability shows how close your player to the position that you think for.
Another button is also, squad depth button and it displays the best player for that position.
Thus you can select the most appropriate players to your team formation. This is very useful function.
Please share your comments about this tactical approach.
Keep me following.
